Reading Glasses

I need glasses while I'm out walking so that I can read fine details on the map. Ideally need something to stay on that wraps around the side of the head such as those used by cyclists. Any ideas?

I've been to the opticians, Specsavers in fact, but they do just the normal frames. Need something a bit firmer.

if you don't need distance glasses then just get a pair of reading glasses -if you want to sophisticate it, see an optitician.

i think you can buy the attachment you require ,but sadly dont know where, hope some aber will have the answer.

I know roughly the design but they seem to be for sunglasses. Anyone who has seen the racing cyclists on TV will know what I mean. Ears are useless for holding glasses on in a sporting environment.

Try an online optician - I use glassesdirect - 15 quid a pair.
As good as the 200 quid stuff from High St opticians.
Some of the chinese ones do 5 quid a pair.
You choose your frames, and key in your prescription.
I normally get mine next day or day after.
Some of them do retro frames - e.g. 1950's NHS - they should be strong!

Just seen latest post - some of them claim to source any frame - never tried though.

rather than an optician try sports retailers, especially ones who deal in the less popular sports, have you tried to access on interweb ?

Just remembered - most of them let you send frames, and they reglaze them according to your prescription.

Many other optical practices other than specsavers. They will do other frames to suit - what about oakleys. Do you need them for just reading (i.e will they need to be single vision) or do you ned to wear them full time and need seperate distance and reading prescriptions (bi/varifocals) and will the frame need to be big enough to fit this type of lens.

Eye problems should be addressed immediately. You should definitely go for an eye exam or talk to a doctor right away because waiting could allow a small problem to develop into a very severe one. The eye is a very sensitive organ and eye damage can be irreparable. No one wants to lose their eyesight. Consult your doctor for the correct prescription for your glasses and then look for a frame style that you can wear when you're outside trying to read a map.
