Is it reasonable for me to ask for time off work ( two days in all, one day for each op) but to take it as sick rather than holiday? I have ten days paid sick leave per year.
Many thanks

My company grants `dependency days`. We are entitled to five a year for such events. I`m not sure if it`s the law for a company to grant them. It might be worth googling it.
not really, you are not sick.
I wouldn't. If they find out you are not sick, they won't be too happy. Have you no annual leave left?
Look at www.lawandparents.co.uk It mentions Dependency Leave

Thanks 237SJ, I have googled dependency days....never heard of them myself but very informative, thanks again.
how old is your daughter? in my org, parental leave only applies till the child is 5, or 18 if disabled

I would tell my employers why I need the days off, but I have no holiday leave left.

My daughter is ten.
Dependency leave is for anyone in your household under your care. It could be an elderly parent or child. I know in my company they are quite good at granting it but they have been known to try to get people to use their own leave but my colleagues stand their ground and say no, they are entitled to it. Good luck. Read up on it and stand your ground
There is no legal obligation that any dependancy leave given is paid though.
