Hi Sqad. My mum has high blood pressure and is on Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg and Ramipril 7.5mg. She has a bad back and is taking paracetamol but would prefer to take ibuprofen for it`s anti-inflammatory properties. She seems to remember a GP saying something about not being able to take ibuprofen because it raises blood pressure. Does it?

The correct answer is to try and avoid the combination Ramipril and Ibuprofen, unless there is no pain killing alternative. In my opinion, the Ibuprofen would lower the BP not raise it.

Can you give me more details as to why your mother needs to take Ibuprofen?

Her back has been hurting since yesterday. It`s a lot worse today. She`s 80. The pain is in the lumber region. It`s not radiating anywhere. She usually uses a walking stick in her right hand but says it`s less painful to rest on the walking stick with her left hand. I must admit, she has been sitting about a lot due to the prolonged holiday (she likes to try to keep active) so that might have done it. She had breast cancer (stage 2b) and I always worry a bit when she gets an ache somewhere for obvious reasons.

Oops! sorry, I didnt see that you had answered my question..;-)

If it was me........I would go ahead and take the Ibuprofen.
As it isn´t me.......tell her to go to her GP and suggest that she takes it as the Paracetamol isn´t doing the trick and gauze his response.
