My 13mth old has had 2 ear infections recently (or you could say 1 that never cleared up with antibiotics). He showed no symptoms whatsoever and I only found out when the GP checked over for something else and happened to look in his ears and said they were inflamed. Anyway he was terrible through the night with it, screaming and screaming and over the last 2 nights he has started doing the same again. He is also this time rubbing his ears but he does do this when he is tired too so I'm unsure. He also has a tooth which has almost broken through so it could be that. Would I be wasting my time going to GP again to make sure it isnt his ear or should I just presume its his tooth thats causing the night time upset. Apart from being clingy though the day he is fine in himself and eating normally.

My money would be on this NOT being an ear infection..........and anyway this has only been going on for a matter of hours and he has no temperature and eating normally.

It is often confusing for an inexperienced GP as when a child is screaming or crying, the eardrums are red, mimicking an ear infection.

What would I do?....Nothing.......give him Calpol at night and monitor the situation, but if he goes off his food, starts a temperature, then take him to your GP.

No big deal at the moment................and probably never will be.

Thanks sqad, before you answered I did phone the GP for advice and they said bring him in to check so I will see what happens. It more than likely is his teeth that are causing him pain but I just want to rule the possibility of an ear infection out. He isnt crying through the day either (just saves that for 3am lol) so his ears should be able to be examined properly.
keep us posted tig.

Sqad is right again hee hee. His ears are fine so its either his teeth or he's just been a monkey for the sake of it!
Thanks for the feedback.
