champix to stop smoking.......

has anybody tried it or is taking it or has successfully stopped smoking with this.as i start my course this week.
i have read about the side effects,of this medication and i am a bit wary.

My sister and two friends have tried it. All of them stopped because it made them very sick. My sister's doctor said that was more common with women(?!). Have you tried nicotine patches already?
