HI, I'm a 30 year old female. In September 2010 I suffered from a chest infection and since then I have been experiencing palpitations and a fast pounding heart rate. In December 2010 I also began to have chest, neck and shoulder pain, the chest pain got so bad it prompted my husband to take me to A&E, there they did an ECG and chest x-ray. The results of the tests where normal and I was given codiene and difloflenac for the pain and told it was lnflammation.
The painkillers had no effect at all so I visited my GP, he thought the problem was anxiety and advised I had some time off. However the symptoms worsened and I then began to experience dizzyness, tiredness, leg cramps, shortness of breath and disturbed sleep.
I then visited another GP who has recommended blood tests and physio which I can't help but think will be pointless. I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks

No.....I think that the other GP was quite correct to do blood tests provided that they include thyroid function tests.

With the symptoms that you have described, one must rule out Hypothyroidism.

Be patient.
babs, i visited my gp yesterday due to having fairly severe palpitations and i now have an appointment for a blood test for thyroid function, and an ecg. it's a case of ruling things out, as sqad says.
Just to say that at one point in the past I started having palpitations, and even the odd skipped beat (boy the next one was a heck of a thump !) It turned out I was spending too much time in the evening playing games on the PC and knocking back bottles of coke (caffeine). Cut out the coke and no more skipped beats, palpitations now rare. Not saying you are the same, but that sometimes the most worrying symptoms turn out to have a simple explanation.

Thanks for the answers, Sqad my appointment for bloods isn't until next week so I'm unsure if thyroid function is included but I'll def check, thanks.
Yes my caffeine intake is probably to high and my work-life balance is shocking, probably time to start looking after myself better.
Thanks.
I'm with old Geezer.

My palpitations and skipped heartbeats went away eventually, after cutting out caffeine and increasing my physical exercise.
i required beta blockers/
I was going to suggest a thyroid function test, you are the right age to have hypothyroidism and may need to take thyroxin
If you need help with anxiety, particularly as they present with the physical symptoms you mention & work life balance, take a look at my site: http://www.intuitiveh...uk/mickel-therapy.htm Think this could really help you. Feel free to email me for further info.
