In the 60´s there was a NSAid called phenylbutazo ne (butazolidin e) which was given to race horses as it was thought that it improved their performance.
The drug has been withdrawn both for it´s alleged performance enhancing in horses and because it may cause aplastic anaemia.
New NSAId.s have also been used in athletes...
