where i live, girls who show off their bump generally do so in the most tasteless way ever. i'm not suggesting that they should be completely concealed under a big tent, i'm just saying that a miniskirt & skimpy top with a seriously pregnant bump sticking out isn't what i would deem appropriate maternitywear. topshop & dorothy perkins seem to have nice ranges of clothes that don't try desperately hard to conceal the bump but also don't leave it hanging out. it's a personal dislike of mine, and that is my opinion, okay?
As I said is my posting, girls should be proud to be pregnant. My thoughts on this have nothing to do with girls being 'ashamed' or hiding their bump. I just think it looks incredibly ugly to wear an outfit that I have described. And I find it horrible to see a belly button sticking out (as they do when you are pregant) with a piercing through it. How is this natural!
Yes, I agree, it is great to be able to wear a bikini on the beach if you are pregnant. I have never suggested that girls should hide their bumps under gross maternity smocks.
Note magicdice feels the same and she is only 17.
Graemer, have you no sense of humour? The grumpy old lady thing and retirement home is a big joke and is aimed at ourselves! Chill out.
And Graemer - I wear very modern clothes, enjoy having way out hair styles, enjoy rock music and attend my fair share of gigs. If you have read my postings on this site, I have always been very quick to support the younger generation and in fact have lots of young friends and have acted as a mentor. I consider myself very young at heart and am proud to be so. I shall be 58 in April.
However, I dislike the fact that a pregnant bump seems to be a fashion item these days, and the bare bumps seen around the street in the middle of winter seem to be more prolific amongst the 15-17 year agegroup!
Rant over.
Best Wishes

i'm not dictating anything, just expressing my views, much as everyone else has in both this thread and the preceding one. but thank you for being so courteous as to completely discount my views but to offer me the right to an (incorrect, apparently) opinion nonetheless

I am a slightly younger 'grumpy' to FP and netibiza but not a lot and also like to wear fashionable clothes, listening to rock music etc. Rammstein is my current favourite!!
Nobody was dictating what expectant mums should wear, we were expressing an opinion on what bare pregnant tums look like.
When I was expecting my sons I wore dungarees... the bump was there and very visible but just not exposed to the fresh air! If I was in the same position now I'd still make the same choices of dress as I did then.
Personally, I think that exposed bumps and visible thongs (a past Q from FP) are just as nausating to look at as exposed 'builders bums' and 'beer bellies'!!
Traceymort - I also find it extremely offensive when men with huge beer guts expose them in public places. Fine on the beaches, but I don't want to see them!
There is nothing offensive about a pregnant bump, they are a joy - but looking at them in the high street completely exposed right down to the pubes is not on.
I see nothing wrong with breast feeding in public places, but I would find it tasteless to walk down a public street with no top on, whilst breastfeeding.
Remember that other people have sensibilities as well!
