Why is it that when you get a blocked nose it's ALWAYS only one side thats blocked and it usually your bad side i.e. right handed people with left nostril blocked and vice versa? Personally i have never had both nostrils blocked

I got a very bad cold last year and had both sides blocked at once - first time this has happened to me; a new virus, I suppose; very unpleasant, but a nose spray sorted it out.

that's not true I'm afraid. The side that is blocked normally swaps over through out the day, especially at night. I've had both nostrils blocked at the same time on a number of occasions, you might have struck it lucky not to get very horrible colds!
