OMG...Extreme dizziness! :(

I posted before about getting dizzy when I got out of bed first thing in the morning, I was literally walking into the wall lol. I am now getting dizzy when I'm lying down in bed and move my head or turn over, I feel like the room is violently spinning and I am falling. Going to the doctors next week about it, any tips on preventing it in the meantime because it is horrible.

or have you been unwell witha cold recently? Could be vestibulitis - a viral thing that usually settles down after a while. i had it years ago - was horrible!

sqad nope, they did suggest an MRI but told them couldn't do it, and no one offered an alternative, and it took me a year to get back on the waiting list because of their clerical mistake.

em10...but you must have had some lateral views of your temporal bone called Stenvers Views.

Are you sure that you have not had any?

no, the consultant over five years ago, did the rocking your head side to side thing, to check eye movements, which almost had me on the floor, literally, there was discernible shifting according to him, it was partly put down to age, and was given various eye movement exercises, hearing tests, and a stand on platform that moves, so they can see how well you balance, i didn't do all that well, like being on a ship, i have light sensitivity, and motion sickness, don't get me near a boat, even though love the sea. Add to the mix an endlessly blocked nasal area, so have nasal sprays, salt sprays you name it nothing works, it sounds like im failing fast, but im not, like CAJ1 its very disturbing and no one ever suggested menieres even when i asked.

em10...from what you have said....and remember i am not in possession of the full facts, then your diagnosis rests between Meniere's Disease and an Acoustic Neuroma and only X-Rays can distinguish between the two, although from what you say it may well be the former.

IF..the diagnosis IS Menieres Disease and IF it is so bad that you cannot go out of the house, then there is a surgical option.

every time some one gets sick or dizzy they are always treated for the ears,9/10 it probably is,but not so in my case,i had all the symptoms but it was actually a bleed on the brain.

slinky...difficult to say...the malformation was at the base of the brain if i recollect, in which case it is unlikely.

Dotty i had thyroid test some years back, came back borderline, not for this, but its like looking for a needle in a haystack, you get one thing, that might go, then something else takes it place.

Sqad no problem with going out, but have had several falls, no alcohol induced ones, with no explanation, I confess that sometimes its scary, i even had a dream once about it once, that i had MS and that was the cause, that must have been playing on my mind at the time.
Human beings are so frail really when you think about it.

Hi dotty, no not had any throid tests done. I've had the unbalanced thing for ages but just got on with it because it only really happens when I get out of bed. Never been this bad though so I've not seen GP about it before

For those of you who do suffer from vertigo - do you drive? I've decided I'm not going to drive again until after I've been to doctors, I went out this morning in the car and stopped with the handbrake on but felt like the car was moving :-/

not advisable at this stage. I would be too frightened of crashing into someone, if its really bad, unbearable, you really should see someone sooner than later. Can you last out till next week, if not seek help, A&E if need be, or ring your GP monday, and tell them what's happening

No, I don't drive. Some of the drugs available may help a bit. I'm on betahistines and stemetil, the later more for the dizziness and have a nasal spray. I hope it gets better for you soon, I know how miserable it can be.

Em1, would it help to ask about some kind of sedation for an MRI (not sure if they do it but maybe worth asking?).

I think I should be ok till Monday, if I get as bad as I was last night while in bed I am going to call the out of hours doctor.

Defo going to stop driving for the time being.
