Should i continue trying or just give up?

Man I really don't know what to do right now yesterday was the first day i tried talking to him in along time on Facebook,I'm just feeling really stupid and don't know if i should continue trying to talk to this one guy i grew up with we've both liked each other since we were kids i just feel dumb cause i saw this one girl comment on his status and he called her hina my mom says it means like an attractive female :(,So should I keep trying or just leave it be??
