I had my BP taken at the sports centre and it was 190/96. I'm not medically qualified but it sounded high to me, so I asked if it was okay and was told it is acceptable as long as the second figure is under 100.
Yes, that is fairly high, but you are supposed to take this reading whilst at rest. Did you fancy the person who took the reading? This would account for the high reading if so.
I would, mrs C. Not disparaging of sports centre staff, but I had a check up with one some years back and the information I was given didn't tally with what the practice nurse told me.
Worth getting it checked by a practice nurse or GP - if it was done in the gym I'd wonder how accurate their machine was and the ability of the user to work it properly.
"Just follow the government guide lines." This is what I was told by the practice nurse when I asked about the possibility of seeing a dietician. Doctor repeated the advice. Perhaps dieticians do not exixt in my neck of the woods. Judging by the slop served up in the local hospital they certainly are not there.
Let us know what the medical version is :) I often get questioned as I tend to have low blood pressure and a fast pulse, neither too low/high but get the are you stressed about something, did you run here questions...ha, long time since anyone saw me do anything near run :)
Jenna, dont want to frighten you but they were my symptoms exactly, low blood pressure, high pulse.I ended up in hospital for 2 weeks with heart problem. what is your heart rate?
Research has been done on the effects of taking pomegranite juice on blood pressure. One of my family who suffers from high BP decided to give it a try. Not only is it cheap to buy (£1/litre) it alsol lowered their blood pressure from 190/95 to 130/88. No fussy pomegranite juice just the stuff you can buy from Tesco in the non-frozen juice dept. No harm in giving it a try, best of luck!
