I've had them in the past - it was a long time ago, so I can't remember the effect. Good luck with them though, it's a rotten condition to have to suffer.
I also had tranexamic acid for the same problem years ago... I found I just lost the blood in large clots rather than fresh blood... If they were prescribed by your GP and the problem has been going on a while ask for a referral to a gynaecologist
Yes, they definitely work, I was prescribed them. They do take a few hours to start to work and initially you think that things are getting slightly worse than better but it is definitely worth the wait.

All the best to you and hope all goes ok.....x
Do they work?.....depends.
Why are you having "heavy periods?"

Sqad......I am having heavy periods (irregular/heavy) because of my age!! I tried the Mirena coil but it didnt suit me. My Dr has prescribed these tablets and today is the 2nd day of taking them and I've not noticed any difference!
yelemots....many questions here.

Heavy periods because of your age .How old are you?
Second day? you will have to give them longer than that.
I think it too about a month before I noticed any difference, but it was a long time ago.
Sqad - more of us have suffered with this, than most women let on - we just put up with it as "woman's lot"....
boxy....;-)....OK

Sqad......I'm nearly 50 and been suffering with heavy period for approx 2 yrs and now they are irregular/heavy and can last 10 days then I can go 6/7 weeks before having another. I got the impression from my Dr that these tablets worked straight away! Before I had the Mirena fitted 18 months ago I did have a blood test and she said I had symptons of the perimenopause. She has also said she would refer me to the hospital if I am still suffering!
yelenots ....it would seem to me that heavy periods of 2yrs origin in a woman of 50 years of age cannot be described as a "woman's lot" until specific attempts are made to establish a diagnosis.

You need to see a Gynaecologist.
best of luck with it all, yelenots, it's a blooming nuisance isn't it? you (and others) might be interested in this link which explains a bit about the whys and wherefores of heavy periods.

I know someone who had these tablets and she said they worked extremely well and eventually the problem was traced to her having a hormone imbalance.

ok sqad - when I go back to my Dr I'll try to see another Dr.
eth....thanks for the link, its very interesting :)
I feel for you I had a problem with very heavy periods and anaemia. Asked to be referred to a gynaecologist there are many treatments they can try it depends what your particular problem is but you don't have to live with this. Good luck
