I have now been on b/p/tablets for three days.

Wednesday I went to doctors and my blood pressure was still quite high at
160/100, so have been given AMLODIPINE 5 mg.
I have an appointment for a months time to keep check on it.
Doc said the effects may cause my legs to swell, and if so, she will change medication. Does this sound ok?

Sounds OK to me pusskin. I started off with one tablet benzo something or other (a water tablet) and then was put onto another when that wasn't successfu - l Perindropil. They then check up to see if your kidney function is OK because of the new tablets. Quite normal procedures.
I have been taking Amlodipine 5mg every day for about three years now and have suffered no side effects whatsoever. My BP has become normal.

Cheers lottie, thats what I wanted to hear. many thanks for your reply x
have a good day
Question Author
thank you chakka35. I will happily carry on taking them now , many thanks x
I'll try Pusskin, but it's horrible wet weather and it's making me feel dreary.

I should have said I still take the first tablet, plus the Perindropil. So 2 tabs a day. Stop worrying about it. You are fine!! x

oh lottie, its very dreary here too. It makes you feel down and fed up, but will soldier on for the sun to shine. Take care Lottie, and try to smile lol x
I take Amlodipine 10 mg every day, I have had no problems at all, my BP is now very good.
I'm on it, and perindopril, with no problems (several years now)
I'm on that, no side effects. It may happen to some but they are just covering themselves as it is a known potential side efect.
Why dont you buy your own BP monitor its on;y £10 and you can keep an eye on your own BP in your own home rather than the stressfull doctors

Thanks for all your replies folks, and hope you all stay well and happy.

I will venture out tomorrow and buy a monitor I think, and try it out at certain times of the day, especially after rushing around and see just how b/pressure can go up and down xx
I have been on Amlodipine for over two years and my legs haven't swollen at all. I did feel extra tired for a month or two after starting to take them but it soon wore off. I can tell you my blood pressure immediately went down and at every check since it has been 120/80 or less. It is one of the best BP tablets to take - so please stick with it and I'm sure you will be pleased with the results.

Ah thank you, good to hear how you've all got on with b/p tablets.
I must admit that my sort of headachy feeling hasnt been so bad today for the first time in weeks. It hasnt been good as its really got me down lately.
Even if I'm imagining that its the tablets working already--thats fine.. lol
Lloyds pharmecy do a very good monitor at a very good price, and they measure your arm so that you get the correct size cuff. My pressure was 180/105. felt really well , but Doctor nor happy. tried the beta blockers, gave me the first migrane I have ever had. so now on benzofluoromethiazide plus candersartan, and pressure at perfect level, 120/80, and having the monitor gives me confidence to know that each day when I take the pressure that things are all o.k. mind you, if I sit and watch the t.v. for an hour and take my pressure, it is sometimes rather low 100/60, make you dizzy when you stand up, but soon rights itself. the doctor said that that pressure at rest was great.
Annie.

Do you take your tablets before or after breakfast?
I just take mine as soon as I get up in case I forget to take them!
Is that ok then to take them on empty stomach , or wait till I've had my porridge?
Will certainly buy a monitor when I get to the shops
It doesn't matter.
