I am currently NHS, however after almost a year without having had one, I booked in for a check up, I was told by a new student dentist that I needed a back tooth filled and he said he could fill it now, to which I declined as I didnt have time, I booked for another appointment and the receptionist asked for the payment for pending treatment in advance, is this correct ? Im not convinced I needed another filling so I booked a quick examination with a private dentist to get a second opinion and lo and behold he said the tooth in question didnt need anything doing to it ! Would I be entitled to a refund from my NHS dentist if I dont have the treatment ?
I work in a dentist and yes they usually do take full payment if it is what they call band 2 tratment (45.60) you only part pay if is a band 3 (this is to ensure that you complete the treatment.
If you have sought a second opinion then yes you can claim a refund from the dentist (would be even better if you take written proof that you do not need treatment) and they should give you a refund minus the examination fee
I don`t trust any of them, as you end up having loads of fillings and extractions that aren`t really nesccesary. I now only have two teeth and they are both only kept to hold my false lower plate in place....which they don`t.
