My OH has had asthma all his life, except one of the practice nurses told me it wasn't asthma - as it's the chronic form, and is now called CP?? - I cannot remember the term, but it wasn't CPAP and it's really annoying me! Thanks for any help.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) ?
COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. http://en.wikipedia.o...ive_pulmonary_disease

Does this help? It has a high prevalence round here (partly due to the mining industry) but it's quite common these days, caused by damage to the airways from a number of causes.

Yes, that's it - thank you both very much.
How has our nurse made the diagnosis?

The two diseases COPD and Asthma are entirely different both in treatment and outlook.

Following Eddies thread, it would seem that medical care is taking over from the doctors.
i do believe . COPD is now used to include chronic asthma and lung disease.
Asthma can develop into COPD(chronic bronchitis/emphysema), the two are NOT the same. I have both and treatment is different and seperate for them.
Sqad, most nurses in general practice here are now undertaking spirometry - many surgeries run nurse-led clinics in both asthma and COPD.
boxtops...fair enough........IF she made her "diagnosis " following spirometry, but I didn't get that impression....did you?

daffy....I agree.
It doesn't actually say, sqad - but on re-reading, I note that the nurse discussed the OH's condition with the OP - not sure if that is in order....islasmum might not be aware of the diagnostics which the patient has undergone.
Agree with daffy too - COPD is not a chronic form of asthma - it (and the training the nurses should undertake before they run these clinics) is different.
boxy..;-)
