What razors ,gels,creams do other men recommend for shaving

I suffer with a shaving rash on my neck wich the official terms is pycosis barbi does anyone have any good tips as in razors any gels or creams which dont irritate and has any one gone from wet shaving (as I do at the moment) to using an electric shaver and which would you recommend thanks

Sorry, probably the wrong gender to be answering this question, but I'll have a go...

I bought my boyfriend an electric shaver for Christmas 2003, prior to that he'd been used to wet shaving with cheapy razors.  For the first couple of days with his new razor, it seemed to itch a bit and was a little red, but that disappeared in about 5-10 mins.  Since using the shaver for the past year and a half, he's used a wet razor a couple of times and finds that same effect as when he first started using the shaver...

He has a Braun shaver, originally bought from currys (it was nearly half price) at about �60 reduced from about �110.

I'd say it is well worth parting with a bit of extra cash for more comfort. Don't waste your time with those disposable thngs, they are rubbish. I use a Gillette Mach 3, and an aftershave balm, rather than a traditional aftershave, they are much better.

sounds a bit odd but try Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner - my b/f went to the hairdressers and was advised that it was really good for shaving, he has sensitive skin but doesn't get a rash now.

Hey spikeybob, i highly recommend a shaving oil as they are so much more gentle and wont irritate your skin so much,or at all, i used to do alot of facials on men with stubble rash etc and always used recommended this which brought back good results. Clarins(bigger department stores) do one for about �12 as they have there own mens skin care range but they last for ages as you only need about one pump to do your whole beard area, you don't need to be dripping in the stuff. Not so sure on razors so i wont recommend somethng i know a small amount about. Also like greenday suggested try using an aftershave balm afterwards to soothe the area. Most skin care ranges have a mans range now too so you can have the pick of the bunch, but if you want quality dont go for dead cheap stuff as the more you pay generally the better and more natural the ingredients are in products. King of shaves lotions do a good job but don't seem to last as long, or use Gillette gel...

I get rashes just from thinking about having one, still have the skin of a teenager 20 years later! I used to wet shave once or twice a week but when I got a new job, I'd have to shave every day so I got myself an electric razor 'cos I thought it'd be easier on my poor face. I didn't mess about, I got one of those wet & dry ones that dispense moisturiser, about �150. The little book said that I may suffer irritration and rashes while my skin gets used to it. Unfortunately after several months, I was still getting the rashes so I had to give up and go back to wet shaving every day. Nothing unusual, Mach 3 razor, sensitive skin gel and Nivea Oil Control moisturiser for after. Wanna buy an electric razor?!

The rash comes from getting a minor infection in the broken skin left by the razor, so to help prevent this firstly  dont be tempted to use the same blade for too long, I start a new one after about rour shaves, like any cutting tool a sharp one is always safer than a blunt one, this will help not ruff up the skin so much, then sterilise the blade between shaves by leaving your razor in a little dilute bleach for an hour or so, (rinse well before using!) this will kill the bacteria that will otherwise be living on the razor, then transferred to your skin. A little tea tree oil rubbed on any sore areas will again, kill any bacteria there, helping to prevent rashes. Inevotably electric razors are never as sharp as a good wet blade, so they will always cause more irritation. Tried it a few times, but always went back to a wet shave, its closer too.I find that shaving gel is better than foam, tends to 'wet' the skin more and actually stay there, foam just wipes off on the razor. Disposable razors use the same blades as non- disposable ones by the same manufacturer, so should be fine. I have tried shaving oils, I found it clogged up the razor and it was impossible to wash the cut bristles off, even under hot running water, and my face hurt like hell afterwards. Always rince your face in the coldest water you can stand after you have shaved, it will help close the skin pores and reduce the tendency to pick up a skin infection.

I personally have very sensative skin and i took me a while to work out what was best for me. I use Clinque face scrub 1st (to lift the hairs) the use my Mach3- the new vibrating one! then finish with Nivea for men mosturiser. I've never seen my skin look this good and would never use a electric shaver- no where near as close shave, trust me the women can tell!!

gillette  mach 3  razors  are fantastic  never use  cheap razors  as the blades  bend  because  its cheap steel. i use  a shaving  brush  and shaving  bowl of soap  from boots which is good  or  look up  trumpers on google   they  sell  good quality  shaving brushes  soaps  shaving creams  ect   they are  more expensive  but the quality  is just superb   worth every penny. Hope  this helps.
