14 Answers
I have a nasty bout of cystitis. It's so bad I'm bath bound....you get the drift....how long till this initial horrendous burning stops? I'm remembering around 6hrs but could be wrong.
Any other tips...NOT drink lots and cranberry! I know this!

I had recurrent bouts of it. It was 'cured' with antibiotics for about a week and then it would come back again. Doc sent me to see a specialist at the hospital to make sure there was no underlying cause - there wasn't. The specialist told me to eat natural yoghurt every day and drink two glasses of cranberry juice. I was also put on a course of antibiotics for about a month, I think. It eventually went away but I still eat 4 dessertspoons of natural yoghurt every day and of course the cranberry juice. I am absolutely terrified of it ever coming back. That and vertigo are not nice. If it did come back I would be straight up the docs for some antibiotics, it's the only way.
I guess if you have ever had a real bout of cystitis that renders you sat on the loo for hours you will understand that those sachets are crap. A real bout makes you feel very ill too, shaky etc....and those sachets make you feel even more sick! Thanks sophie_1003...that was the answer I was looking for. I don't think people realise what a true bout is like....it's debilitating. It did last about 6 hours and is slowly disappearing now.
