I have decided to spend the day on my own. As my husband only died in July I know I am going to be upset on the day and do not want to bring anyone else down so would prefer to be on my own. Friends have tried to persuade me to go to them but I want to be in my own home and do what I want to do. I am not looking forward to it but am no longer dreading it now I have made up my mind.
I have told them I will ring around on the day Sara and hope people will ring me too. My sister wanted me to go to her but she doesn't live near me and it would mean staying over and I just want to be in my own home and sleep in my own bed. I know it is going to be hard but that's what I would prefer to do. I'm sure there will be some people to talk to on here as well. xx
Can't Christmas be such a problem? I lost my husband last year and no way would I stay here on my own that day, I'd feel completely deserted. I will be away at sister's in England, like last year, but know one day I might have to do it alone... If only, it could be just like say any Bank Holiday; tough but you can do it. I often wonder why we have to DO Christmas.... could always become a Jehovah's Witness... wonder what they do????
With the daughter away in Australia,I had my first Christmas on my own last year. I'd decided to just spoil myself with whatever food and booze I wanted, and also ordered some books to be opened that day.
As it was-my plans went phhhhfftt!, as I came home to a flood the night before.....so spent the night with friends who first helped me mop the mess. I also had Christmas brunch with them...then came home to do more mopping....;-(
Daughter is back, and will be here on the day...it will be a quiet one...with some good food and junk telly.

Well, sara I suppose they've got the day off work and with everything shut what else can they do? You can just imagine turning back to everybody in the house and command that all pressies and the dinner to be removed to the bin...I mean what are they gaining going out on Xmas Day? Strange that craft as New year's Eve wouldn't have been a problem but as we usually spent it here with a friend I decided it was either at her house or nothing. This year, I don't know what I'll be doing. Are you a Scot? cos I do know Hogmanay is quite a big thing up there. That'll be nice pastafreak. Hope the plumbing's checked beforehand...
I spend Christmas on my own and have done for the last 5 years. Do I feel lonely -- no . Have a lunch I like , a glass of wine , walk my dog , relax -- no hassle. Do not do Christmas cards , decorations , tree and so on-- why because I don't want to. Have family all distant -- keep in touch by phone and e-mail all that is needed.
Last year on Christmas day emulsioned the kitchen , well pleased with that.
This year a bedroom may be-- will see.
After all to me it is just a day.Am I happy--- yes, have always done my own thing. So why change things now ?
However all the very b est to everyone.
