Lisa,

Doctors will, generally speaking, give you the "worst case scenario", and most will point out that they're not counsellors. I strongly suggest that you follow the advice that Chris gave you and get in touch with people who are there to help you through this. The medical professionals will do their job and the counselling professionals will do theirs...

So sorry to hear your news sweetheart, and I totally understand why you are feeling so all at sea, but stay strong. I know a few ladies who have had this and beaten it, and you will be the next one that I know whose done the same I'm sure. Love and best wishes to you and your family. xxx
When you get more info about the stage it is at come back and let us know although most of the early stages its considered very much a curable rather than treatable cancer.

There is every chance you will be on here posting about your grandkids in twenty years time

Be positive
I had an abnormal smear about 22 years ago. Cone biopsy and laser treatment sorted it out. Fortunately. 2 children later, and have never missed a smear appointment.

Cyber hugs to you Lisa. xxxx
sorry to hear this news divegirl, please speak to someone so you dont feel alone through this, cancer survival rates are very good these days, I hope you hear some positive news soon xxx
Have they given you a precise diagnosis, ie a stage 2 squamous cell carcinoma ?

Have they discussed the treatment plan?

I am really sorry to hear your news. Posting here could be a very positive thing. There are many posters who can offer reassurance and practical advice.
I'm sorry to hear this Lisa, I'll be thinking of you... I'm rubbish at this... have some music instead! :c) xx

I can only agree with what everyone else has said. it need not look so bleak. wait til you know the full picture, then you can prepare yourself for dealing with it.

take care x
A few weeks ago, when I was still working in Oncology, we had a woman aged 109 in the breast clinic. She's had breast cancer for over 50 years and she's still going strong.
This is such a wonderfully helpful site because of the caring people who give their time and kind words to others in need of them. Lisa I hope you gain some strength from people who are best able to advise and support you and especially your fellow abers here. I wish you well and here's hoping you will have better news as the weeks go on. Sending you lots of gentle hugs and all good wishes to you and your family. xx

Wow...just wow.

I have to admit something now... I did miss a smear test...and this is the thing I'm finding hardest to come to terms with, maybe, just maybe this could have all been avoided. But now is not the time for ifs and buts!
Today I'm just going to have a good day...it was already planned to take some friends out for lunch [though I may have to down-grade to Maccy D's as there are a few more coming now].....

I feel pretty overwhelmed by the support I'm getting and am so happy that in my darkest times it would seem there will always be someone to chat to on here. You have no idea how much talking on here helps.

China....perfect btw :0)

Aw Lisa, awful news. Thinking of you.
Dave always says stuff better than me ;o)

Chin up and all that love, concentrate on good things for now and wait to get more info. No point in dwelling on the missed smear test as you say, it's done now and fixating on it ain't going to help... Have a big mac for me! xx
There is nothing that I can say that will make you feel any better or worse except to say that depending upon staging, you will be alive and well in 5 years time.....medical way of saying that you will be cured.

Don't beat yourself up because you missed a smear.........it is neither here nor there.

You will be fine.
