Hysteroscopy, biopsy and coil fitting

I'm having all three done on Friday which to me sounds like rather a lot of procedures at one time. What's the point in fitting a Mirena coil if they are taking a biopsy? Surely one would have to wait for the results before fitting the coil. Sounds like I may be in a bit of pain afterwards or am I just making a fuss about nothing?

I can't answer for certain, ruth, but it seems to make sense to me to do it all "while they're in there", saves having intrusive procedures twice?

Insist on anaesthetic - resist all suggestions that 'it isn't painful, just uncomfortable'.

The Mirena coil will provide you with a constant supply of progesterone, which you will be missing after the hysterectomy (as well as oestrogen, but they usually give that as a tablet or patch and I was told it was safer to have the Mirena coil and oestrogen separately rather than the two combined). Doing it under general anaesthetic is the best way, so they'll be avoiding a further procedure later.

Whole procedure should take no longer than 15 mins, usually performed under general anaesthetic.
You may be in a little discomfort later but usually nothing that a couple of paracetamol or similar won't sort out.

I had my hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic for a biopsy. Was in pain when I came round but soon went with the pain relief.

Oops - Boxtops, thanks for pointing that out. Think I need my eyes testing! But if Ruthandsam is either menopausal or has period problems, the coil does make sense.

My advise comes from having recently fallen for the 'it's only a cramping sensation' advice and had a hysteroscopy and biopsy without any anaesthetic, thus saving the local NHS a couple of quid. It's not the same across all areas but some try to tell women not to be silly or make a fuss about 'a little discomfort'.

Just got back from hosp. Had a local anaesthetic and all went very well. Took 30 mins but what astounded me the most was the gynaecologists information on the perils of shaving/waxing down below. Extremely interesting if not terrifying!
