Why is it that for the last three years I have not been ill, except at Christmas?
Last year it was a chest infection. The year before that the Flu and this year the Flu.
Blinking typical, I got it on Christmas Eve and I have almost shaken it off. But I go back to work on Tuesday.
I think I am alergic to Christmas (although I actually love it, if I am feeling ok).
wish i could give you the answer, i have been ill since first week december and still not over it. So welcome to the christmas club, seems there are any number who have fallen foul of a winter bug.
the chest infection i cannot comment on , however the flu could be due to the fact people tend to get together " usualy passing on gifts for young ones " who are usualy rampant with some infection or other due to being in classrooms with 30 or so other children.
one good cold in assembly with 300 or more other children will mean many coughs and colds quickly passed on.
I always say the same stoofur, every year I get something, usually the week before when I've left evrything too late. Persoanlly i think the stress of Xmas lowers my immune sustem.
I think there maybe something in Sprinter's comments. At work we have a big run up to Christmas where we have to get everything done in the shortest working month of the year. So when we actually finish there is a sense of relief. It is then that I seem to get ill.
Not sure about the getting together in large groups. I see pretty much the same people at Christmas as I would on a normal weekend. Actually I probably see less people as I am ill an not able to go and see them.
you don't actually need 300 people to catch an infection from, just one. They're more widespread in winter for various reasons - out in the fresh air less, cold saps our defence mechanisms more, greater stress before Christmas (whether shopping or partying) - so we've got a bigger chance of encountering that one person who'll pass on the infection to us, even if we only mix with the same number of people as usual.
In my opinion, its when your worked up and running yourself wragged with xmas arrangements, the flu virus takes hold, as this is when your immune system is at its most vulnerable, when your stressed.......your not allergic to xmas lmao!!!
I always think that it is because of the pressures of getting everything done, your body won't allow itself to become ill, but as soon as that pressure is taken off, your body thinks ok - time to relax and that's when the illness strikes. I used to work in a school and as soon as the summer holidays started, that's when I would be ill.
