gum infection
8 Answers
I had a root filling done in December.
Two weeks ago I had tooth ache and my face became very swollen. Dentist gave me a five day course of antibiotics two sorts, swelling went down saw him last Friday my face was almost ok just slightly puffy on cheek gum was swollen. xrays taken he said he would have no option but to remove the tooth because of the infection worried that it would flare up gain. My gum is now back to normal I have no pain apart from if I press my face above the gum it still feels slightly tender. My point is. do I still need my tooth out because it has improved since I saw him and had the xray.
Please help

You have 4 possible options:
1) Extraction - certain cure of the problem
2) Re-root canal treatment may be possible depending on the reason why the original root canal treatment has not been successful. May need a specialist endodontist.

4) Leave in-situ. You could take this 'just wait and see' option. The infection will return and you risk more severe complications. It would be going against your dentists.
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful without further information, biut those are your choices!

Most Dentists will only remove the Tooth as a last resort. What did the Xray show?
I had a similar problem, had a Root Canal, but had very painful sensitivity whenever I drank anything. I returned to see the Dentist, he Xrayed me said there was no difference.
I decided to see another Dentist who again took Xrays and found the previous one hadn't filled all the canals and also hadn't gone deep enough. She redid the Root Canal and £280 later I've had no problems since.
She said the sensitivity may have been because the Tooth has a Hairline crack.
