Having been a slave for years to which ever brands promise the most, I've been cold turkey for couple of weeks, and honestly can't see any difference to the old phizog.

If you wear make up yes, it's a good thing as it's a good base. It's also a good barrier if it's got sunscreen in summer. Personally, if I didn't wear moisturizer my face would feel dry so it's a comfort thing too. However as others say; no need to pay the top price.

Interesting article, jno, thanks, and thanks all for your comments.

When I say haven't used any for couple of weeks, should also add that neither have I been wearing any makeup. Returning to work next week, no doubt I shall start wearing both again (couldn't face foundation on dry unmoisturised skin).

I think we all know deep down that the expensive brands are in some cases an absolute rip-off and don't deliver anything that the cheaper brands do not. I'm a sucker for anything new though "OK, this is the one, I believe all the hype and obviously if it costs in excess of £50 for a teeny little jar then it must be good!"

But my skin today looks no more wrinkled/dry after 2 weeks without. I estimate I've spent thousands over the (many) years what a waste.
I've used Nivea for 50 years and it suits my skin perfectly. Recently I decided to try and fade some "age spots" which have appeared on my face and asked for a Clinique consultation in Boots, they persuaded me (must have been mad!) to buy a small tube of Clinique "dark spot corrector" - it cost a staggering £38 (not my usual kind of budget!) After using a second tube as she changed the time limit as to when I would see a difference, I decided it was one big con! It didn't work at all, I reckon you just pay for the brand name. So its the same with moisturisers, the cheap ones do exactly the same as the expensive ones, you just have to find one which suits your skin.
Only use it if my skin starts to feel tight or if I am going out in very cold dry weather or in strong winds but use spf30 suntan lotion on my face if I know i am going to be out in the open air during the summer

Revitalift or one of the cheaper olay ones tried the Aldi one but it made my face itch, nivea is too rich don't use cleansers but use a soap with natural rose oil in seems to work
Forgot to mention its not the original Nivea in the little round tins which I use, that really is too rich and greasy. Its the lotion in a blue bottle as its quite light, not rich at all and sinks in immediately.
