itchy restless legs
15 Answers
The bottom of my legs are driving me mad. My feet and ankles keep swelling and are itchy. I don't know what to do with them, especially when I'm still. I've just come back from a coaching holiday an d i thought i was going die, constantly twitching and praying for the journey to end. I will go to the Dr on Monday, but in the meantime is there anything i can do?

Keep your legs elevated if possible - feet above hip height. If you can get out to a Decleor counter (John Lewis have one) or beauty salon buy some Circulagel to rub in or the alternative product in the range Circulaspray. I sometimes suffer the same thing and these are the steps I take to get comfy. The spray or gel can be used through tights. Don't forget to consult your doc.

If you've been sitting in a coach for a long time, it could be that your circulation is poor and the fluids are gathering in your ankles (that is very much a layman's description). This is why you should have been encouraged to do the same exercises as you should do on planes, foot rotating etc. It could go away on its own, now you are home, but it's worth checking out with the GP.
Crisgal, go to your doctors if you're really worried. I've had restless legs
before but never with the itching, mine just ache and feel heavy and you
keep fidgeting trying to get comfortable until it eases and I drop off. Please
try and not worry because sometimes stress can agggravate the situation.

I know the feeling. I get it when I have been a passenger on a long flight. Personally, I think that horrible restless feeling is something to do with my back (possibly the lumbar region). I usually just try to do some spine stretching exercises when I get home. If your ankles are swollen, the skin in that area will be stretched which will make it itchy. I would just use some moisturiser (E45 or the like), keep hydrated and keep active.
Crisgal I have dry skin around my ankles and feet along with restless twitching legs during the evenings and my ankles swell a little. Now I use a dry skin cream on my legs especially after a shower or bath. Circulation seems to be the problem, as boxy says try to keep moving your feet and legs. I keep meaning to tell the Doctor about it and forget. Let us know what your Doctor advises.
