Soft tissue damage

Hi!
My husband is a kidney tranplant patient of nearly 9 years now (his second one). Friday night he started with sickness and diahorrea but seemed to be over it by Sat morning (usually when he has sickness it takes a long time before he actually stops being sick). His foot started to feel tender and he assumed it could be because of lying in bed for so long. By last night it had spread to his knee. This morning he was in total agony, could hardly walk and has had to use a walking stick. He has been to A&E and they have taken x-rays which showed nothing wrong so they are saying it is soft tissue damage and asked when he hurt/banged it to which he reply was I haven't banged it at all it just started to hurt!!!!
He is going to the docs tomorrow but I'm just wondering what on earth it could be!! He had fluid retention a few weeks ago due to changing his tablets and the same leg hurt like hell but that corrected itself once they changed the tablets again. It always seems to be his left leg which is the side his transplant is on.

Appreciate any replies as I am now worrying this is leading onto something else.

2 things come to mind:

1) Electrolyte imbalance due to his D and V
2) Cryptococcal or other organisms causing a cellulitis.

You are going to the GP tomorrow and he will decide based on examination.

My bet is that it is a cellulitis and may need antibiotics.

One thing that immediately springs to mind is that he could have vommitted up his anti-rejection meds.
I assume his transplant is in his left groin so there could be some connection between the transplant and this recurring problem with his left leg.It might be worth a call to his renal unit.

Hi Mrs Overall, thank you for your reply. He was sick during the night so it was quite a few hours after he had taken his evening tablets so prob would have absorbed all his tabs by the time he was sick. He's told them at clinic that his leg often hurts, always the left one but they never seem to want to do anything about it.

He saw the Doctor this morning who seemed a bit baffled but thinks the same as the hosp that it is connected to the water retention he had 2 weeks ago when they changed his meds and that it has damaged/bruised the soft tissue and all he can do is take paracetamol and rest it.

It seems a little better today, still very painful tho.
