I keep hearing these stupid adverts. The thing is two years ago I had blood in my pooh and at first sight I went to the doctors and it turned out that I over used decongestant treatment. Why would anyone not go to the doctors it's not like You have contracted HIV behind your wife's back through a gay relationship. Why are these adverts on !!!!!

We knew she had heart failure, but then to tell us that she had a 'mass' in her bowel, was too much for me to take. I had told the hospital about mucus and blood in her very loose faeces, but was ignored. I snapped that, why hadn't it been found before, but looking back, she would have died in a hospital that she hated, covered in tubes and people trying to revive her. At least she died in her own bed with her family around her. The way she wanted it.
Owdhammer- my father in law was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 1992 and given less than six months to live at the time. Not being a man to accept his own mortality easily he had chemo etc and aggressive treatment for it and finally died ( not of the cancer) in 2008 well in his 80's. It's a thing to say try not to worry, but do try to take heart that people can and do outlive this horrible disease even when the initial prognoses has been very bad. I really wish you all the very best in your ongoing treatment.
As for smilingcrow- exactly how stupid are you? Anything which raises awareness about any form of cancer symptom has to be a good thing, some people are easily embarassed, the more we can normalise going to the Dr with an embarassing complaint the more likely they are to seek help in time.

there is someone at work who was actually at work and fine late january. He was eating pies and in good humour. He had an operation last year for prostate cancer and early feb they found out it had secondaries. Today he passed away. Same thing happened with my mum. once its secondary thats it you are well gone quickly. Cant believe they can not find a cure.
On a lighter note though why dont they have adverts about feeling your testicles or breasts? Surely its more of a priority for young people not to die due to the length of time they have available to live regardless of the cancer?

There have been campaigns regarding breast cancer and testicular cancer, did you not see them? Bowel cancer is unusual in under 40's but not unheard of, but I think anyone's life is a priority, I don't think you have a sell by date after which your demise doesn't matter. I take it you are quite young Smilingcrow by your remarks...
