I read today that statins have been found to impair memory. My husband suffered joint pains on one statin. I was close to being prescribed but preferred to try myself and lowered reading substantially just by eating porridge each morning. Also read that the statin industry is worth billions thanks to all the people now prescribed them......
I still stick with my previous answer 'pusskin', but about eighteen months ago I saw my doctor as I always seemed so tired and everything seemed to be an effort. He decided that I might benefit from having regular B12 injections. I now have them every three months and I really do feel better for having them.
Now, I'm not saying these injections would be right for you, but you did say you wanted our opinions, and I glad to see you will be discussing your concerns with your doctor next Tuesday.
If you do decide to stop them my advice would be to try to take 6 pills in a week then 5 pills the next week and so on. I'm doing this with my Lisinopril.
I did mean that would it be ok if I suddenly didnt take simvastatins at all.
I've never ever been on a diet and dread doing so --thats why my doc made me take pills instead, as chlorestral was 5.8. (doesnt seem high does it)
I always have big bowl of porridge every day and never fry ups for brekkie
p.s I have hardly ever been on medications before. Apart from bladder tumours and abnormal cells a few yrs back, I am pretty healthy I reckon, or maybe I'm wrong x lol
You seem to do doing the right thing regarding your diet. I agree that the 5.8 reading for your cholesterol doesn't seem that high, but the medical profession has lowered their target to around 4.0 in the last year or so.
I had muscle pains, asked my Doctor if it could be the statins, He said " stop taking them if you like and see if you feel better" Big decision, ball in my court, do i risk it??
no, muscle pains I can live with.
percy.
Simvastatin gave me bad side effects eg extreme fatigue so I stopped it and benefited from doing so.I dropped my cholesterol by taking Benecol drinks & spread.
I suppose I'm being a bit silly really thinking i should come off stats.
I just hate taking tablets as you can tell, so will ask the quack when i see him next Tues. Thanks each and everyone for your answers, much appreciated.
Good on you David. Too often people are being put straight onto statins. I am soooo sceptical especially since I read about the 29 billion dollar profits involved in this brain washing. Cholesterol is manufactured in the body because we need it. Your joints ache because the statins are doing a fantastic job of removing it all!
I had terrible bad back muscle pains when I took Simvastatin, also Pravastatin, and then Ezetermibe, so now do not take any kind of statin. My husband has started taking them and has been fine so far, a few months.
Why is it not to be mentioned here wiltsman as to why statins are so promoted? It is relevant that those put on to taking them know the full sorry, and I make no apology for mentioning the drug company's motives.
