DVLA - informing them of medication

I've just discovered from my Psychiatrist that I need to let the DVLA know that I am taking a certain medication. What are the chances of my licence being taken off me?

I'm getting rather anxious about this.

what's the medication if we may ask?

My mother has Alzheimers and she is allowed to drive on an annual basis, signed off by her consultant who encourages the skill to continue as long as possible

does the bit of paper that comes with your meds say 'do not operate machinery' or 'do not drive'?

if not, you may be more confident! if it was forbidden, your doc would hve said by now i'm sure!

Hi - I'm on Quetiapine 600 mg XL and have been for the past 9 months and was never told to inform them. I'm now being told by the Psych that if I'm involved in an accident my insurance would be invalid.

What a nightmare - I've had a quick look on their website so looks like I'll have to fill in a medical form but in the meantime whilst they look at the info there is a possibility that I might have my licence revoked. This would cause lots of problems with work, etc. However, as I only drive in the day and feel fine surely after all this time I would be ok.

My mother is on the Arecet generic derivative and not an issue. Talk to your consultant if he/she (or your GP) will support your application

When I was on chlorpromazine I was told to notify DVLA by my consultant. It didn't matter as I don't drive - but there was no way that I could have driven when taking the tablets.

I suppose it all depends on how the drug affects you and your driving.

If you have had no trouble driving in the last 9 months it is likely that your GP and consultant will support you - it's a pity you were not told of this before though.
