My nan was hospitalised recently following a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, a UTI and a chest infection. Today, following a full body CT scan, she was diagnosed with cancer. It's a large tumour lying between the uterus and the bowels, and they are unsure at this stage which one it stems from. They have said that it hasn't spread but but they didn't seem very upbeat when they gave the diagnosis.
Any words of reassurance you can offer me? I'm in bits. X

If it is malignant, then as the body scan was otherwise fine, then it may not have metastasized, but that would still involve a major pelvic content resection.
Is she fit enough?
Need to know more about the tumour NoM....................

If it is a reassurance, my old man was in a right mess (age 54) and when they opened him up (colon cancer) they gave him three weeks. Once they had extracted all and looked at the biopsies, things weren't as bad and he lived for a further four years. 5 months after his first stay (and he said he couldn't remember hardly a thing for over two weeks), he came out to Paris, where I was living, looking wonderfully fit. One of my fav photos is a small picture of the two of us next to a fountain in a hotel drive.....
You may be in for some bad initial news but they really need to do their spade work first so hold in for that.

Thank you everyone. It's good to know that when you're at a low ebb, you always have your Ab family to turn to.
I suppose I should try to remember that her present state of ill health is multi-factorial and it's not necessarily the cancer that's making her feel as weak as she is.
I will keep you all updated.
