lower abdominal/back/hip pain
11 Answers
I have been experiencing the above since early yesterday morn. The pain in my abdomin is quite severe, though it keeps flaring up in my lower back in the kidney region. It quite often comes with a pain in my left hip - top of my side thigh. I've been burning up and feeling quite feverish as well. I've hardly been to the toilet to urinate or otherwise, nothing seems to be happening in that respect. I've been taking painkillers, to no avail - does anyone have any advice? TIA

My doc ruled out water/kidney infection (I had to ring for the results so I've not seen them since) Still experiencing severe pains in my pelvic area. Have been taking 2 x paracetamol & 2 x ibuprofen religously every four hours - even through the night, as soon as they begin to wear off, the pain starts back with a vengeance. It's actually getting worse as opposed to better, and I'm still very much constipated and not passing much water, despite drinking plenty. It's very uncomfortable, and nothing seems to relieve it - the painkillers just take the edge off, but it has been constant for 5 days now and I've lost weight and I'm feeling very weak and tired. I was due to have a coil (IUD) taken out, but had to be referred for a scan a few weeks ago as the doctor could not locate it - they were going to call me back when they got the results but never did. It has not caused me any problems up to now, but could it be this causing the pain - possibly? I've rearranged another appointment with doc, but cannot get in until tomorrow.
OK Meg....your urinary tract has been given the "all clear" as far as infection is concerned, but infection is not the "b all and end all" of the story. Your problem could well be gynaecological and of course, we know nothing about your age or menstrual cycle.
I am a bit confused as to whether you have had an ultrasound scan and if so, you need to know the result.

Hi Squad. I'm 41, I have an implanon fitted so don't really get periods but still get the cramps monthly, which I did about 10 days ago. The reason for the scan a few weeks ago was just to locate the coil, as the doc could not retrieve when she tried to remove it. They told me at the hosp, they had located it and would pass on the info to my doc who would then call me back and decide if she could remove it or if I'd need to be referred to hosp. I've not heard back from doc since having the scan done.
Thanks Squad. My doc checked my abdomin yesterday when I went, and seemed to be at a bit of a loss as to what was wrong, but he did not check my back or hip pain. He tried to put it down to joint pain (as I suffer this also) but it's nothing like that sort of pain, it doesn't hurt to touch; the coil was not mentioned at the time by either of us, because I was convinced it was a water infec, which I just needed some AB's for... but it has got me thinking since. Anyhow, back there tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get somewhere.
