Flights with Cluster headaches

I have suffered from cluster headaches for over 12 months now and on medication from my doctor. After reading on the internet that aircraft flights cause chronic headaches on take off and landing if suffering from this complaint I asked my doctor for advice. The answer was to try it and see. We are planning a Barbados holiday later this year and obviously do not want to risk the flight without more information. Does any member know of anyone who has taken a flight with this complaint and the result of doing so?

I can`t say I`ve ever heard of that. The only way I can see that someone would get a headache due to pressurisation is if they have blocked sinuses or blocked eustacheon tubes. If it`s a sharp, almost stinging pain across the front of the face it`s the sinuses. If it`s in the head or up the neck it`s the ears.

I can see no common grounds for cluster headaches and ascent and descent in aeroplanes.The mechanism is quite different, the the latter it is due to differing pressure in the sinuses and although the cause of cluster headaches isn't known, they are certainly not associated with air pressure changes.

Thank you for your replies, trying to establish if my problem getting worse on the flight due to altitude might spoil it for rest of family.

My son suffered a bout of utterly appalling cluster headaches and he flew to Germany several times to see his sister without adverse effect, that being said cluster headaches are nasty animals and prone to do their own thing a bit for each individual.
