Painful mole removal?
22 Answers
I had a mole removed last week (with liquid nitrogen stuff, I think) and I was surprised by how painful it was? I'd done my research on mole removal and everyone told me it was painless. I got a bad feeling about it when I got on the couch and the nurse held my legs and started talking to me in a loud, falsely cheerful voice. I think I have a pretty good pain threshhold, but I dread having to have it again. Anyone else had the same experience?

I was given a local anesthetic (a type of lotion). The pain wasnt too bad, a little like a cigarette burn but the freezing kind of numbs the nerves so its not quite as bad. At first you notice a large white indented crater (kind of scary) but it quickly thaws out and the area begins to swell like a cigarette burn and the hole dissapears. Later the burns develop into blisters which are a little unsightly. I was told they will eventually dry up and turn to scabs and in about 3 weeks they will fall off without scars. The negative is the unsightly blisters and the fact that surrounding skin seems to have been frozen as well.
All of your posts were very helpful in deciding to remove my own mole. I've asked a few times over the years to have my mole on my forehead removed. The doctors always shrug it off, "ah, it's not that noticeable".
I used a razor and liquid nitrogen. The pain wasn't bad at all. Of course, I pierced my own ears when I was 10. I know from consulting with doctors previously that this mole is not cancerous or abnormal in any way. It was a colourless fatty deposit, a quarter of the size of an eraser on the end of a pencil, irritating me for 30 years. It stuck out so much it made it's own shadow. I kid you not. I'm not happy with the fact I'll have to heal for a couple of weeks and it will be more noticeable than before, but I am HAPPY to be rid of it. I have had decades of first aid training, so as you're all shaking your heads, I was being as safe as could be. I did it exactly like they would have done in the office, though a scalpel would have been handy...I do not condone anyone taking their medical issues into their own hands. The purpose of this post is just to share my experience. Do not try this at home. I will be watching for signs of infection and will go to a doctor at the first sign of trouble. I've also had my tetnas shot recently, so that's all good. I'm also in very good health otherwise, no auto-immune deficiencies or diabetes....jeeze I must sound like a nut. I'm not really.
