so you have a first date and it appears to go well...should the woman ever make the next move? Whether it's the man or woman who contacts to arrange Date 2, how long after Date 1 should that be and why? Above all, if people like/fancy each other, why all this game-playing - why not call each other up straight after and get on with it, instead of delaying calling? Am I right in assuming it's considered a sign of weakness if either party follows up too soon?

I don't see it as weak, in fact quite the opposite. How are you supposed to know where you stand if you don't make contact, I'd ring the next day to say thanks and to say what a great time I had, if another date is on the cards then it will become apparent, if not, chalk it up to experience. Good luck.
Get on with it I say, the sooner you know either way the sooner you can getiton/move on.
just go with the flow - if you want to do it then do it, if you want to wait then wait - if you are already considering signs of weakness then........... I'm out!!!!
Are there rules to things like this other than in silly American TV series?
I've never been aware of them if there were, sometimes you ring the girl, sometimes she rings you, sometimes you send flowers, sometimes you don't, sometimes you just wait til you naturally see each other again to keep it light, sometimes it's instant sometimes a few days- as rsvp says- just relax and go with the flow.
