well, after all the years we've been together, all the hints all the ''discussions'' my partner and i have had, he finally popped the question this morning! Been out all day looking at rings and couldn't find 'the one' so we decided to keep looking and not to announce it to our friends till monday when were holding a jubilee party. Obviously our close family know as i couldnt contain our excitement but we wanted to make a bit of a big deal about it when everyone was together.
Anyway get home and log on to see that one of the guests, and infact a mutual friend has just announced she has also just got engaged. I know i sound bridezilla before weve even started but im absolutely gutted, ive cried my eyes out for the past few hours, there's no way we can announce ours now,it would be like stealing their thunder so to speak. Im so happy for them, but cant shake off this feeling of utter disappointment, ive waited so long for this ;-(

yeah thanks for the nice replies, talk about kicking someone when there feeling down, must make you feel really good about yourselves! Im simply saying that given all the excitement we felt today, all the plans we were making, we are simply foregoing all that so that my friend can have HER moment, by far does that make me selfish or stupid. I cant help but feel disappointed and upset by it, i simply needed to vent off a bit i wasnt looking for sympathy and certainly wasnt looking for abuse. We have recently suffered a huge loss in our lives, so i know there are more things to get upset about carp.
If you do quiz's the Q is always. We know who came 1st in ....... but who came second?
still remember the time mrs weecalf and myself got engaged .she got down on her good knee and said hi you would you like to be buried with our people . how could i refuse

Who came second in the Wimbledon Ladies Singles in ... hang on, err 1991? ... but never won a Grand Slam title? (although Brighton should be counted as a Grand Slam, and she did win here).
weecalf - when you said 'Yes' did you take a weecalf to celebrate? (Me hopes you are Scottish).
Anyhoe ... I had to check the year, but I knew he'd come second (coz some people think that Congratulations actually won Eurovision).
sugar, whoa there a minute, just put this in perspective - more so if you have had a bad time. Enjoy your engagement, Congratulations!!
Why be disappointed? I don't get the 'stealing their thunder'. Your friends are surely going to be delighted for you, aren't they - and you'll get all the congratulations you expect, won't you? I don't see the problem in announcing it now - really I don't.
Here's some more tissues.....my bruv has just got engaged :)
What made him change his mind after turning you down in February?

alot of things have been put into perspective craft, we lost a very close friend a few weeks back, my partner has had a very serious health scare, and it turns out that he had been planning this for a while
Go for it sugar... Id go for it as planned if i was you! Celebrate xx
Announce it at your jubilee as planned. Much better than announcing it on FaceBook!

Your fiancé can say during the announcement that he was very nervous about proposing to you on (whatever day it was) and then you both though the party would be right time to announce it.

I'm sure the Queen won't mind you stealing her thunder :)

If your newly engaged friend is also there, you can of course raise a toast to them after everyone has raised a toast to you.

I really don't see a problem.
"I'm sure the Queen won't mind you stealing her thunder"

Are you kidding? She (I mean "Her Majesty") will be livid !
You've accepted his proposal, so you're engaged & the ring is incidental. Go shout it out & be happy. Best wishes.

I've gotta get myself to Oz for bruv's wedding & he wants his guests to wear sarongs....or did he say thongs :(
Ah suagr - I sort of understand ....... and feel for you as you wanted to be the centre of attention - and quite rightly so as its such a big occasion for you and after your loss you deserve some happiness. But hey you can still enjoy it - just make a big announcement - lift your glass to the other recently engaged guest saying "well so and so, anything you can do we can do better" make your own engagement announcement and then say graciously "thats lovely news as all the best people get engaged at the Queens Jubilee!" You could make them all laugh at the party and joke to all the guests attending "you certainly got BOGOF tonight" (Buy one get one free!) everyone will laugh and both couples will have a lovely time. If there is dancing invite the other happy couple on the floor to have the first dance WITH you both to "share our happiness" - See suagr- its sorted! Have a great celebration, its your special day so enjoy it! Its a day to remember for the rest of your life, so please don't let anything spoil it.
Just log on again and announce your engagement, congratulate your mutual friend and tell her you are to announce your engagement on Monday to all the friends and family. You are not stealing her thunder, she has almost stolen yours. Tough, you've absolutely no reason to get upset about it, what about your fiancee? Celebrating your engagement is the happiness for the two of you to share with your friends and family.
