I now want to tuck into a chocolate cake and give up... We have eaten virtually the same so I cannot understand it, anyone have any ideas or suggestions as its the

Or at the very least go to Slimming World or Weighwatchers. At least they apportion real food. You say that your partner is 1 foot taller and 5 stone heavier. If you take an average of 5lb per foot of height then that will give some idea. One thing...are you drinking enough. Not to be indelicate, are you going...? The gut can store quite a lot of waste matter which needs flushing out. It could be that yours is hanging about... Good luck. From the sound of it you are suffering what most people dieting as a couple suffer. Men lose weight more easily. Just focus on how much better you will feel when the weight starts to drop. Good luck!
Calorie counting is the best way to lose weight. We've used 'My Fitness Pal' since February . OH has lost 3 stones and I've lost 1 stone. MFP is available as an app and a website. Not only does it help you track what your eating but it charts any activity you do. You can read each others diary and therefore support each other. There is a huge database of food and any which aren't , you can add by scanning on your phone. It's brilliant. Good luck!
I use 'my fitness pal' too, it works out the calories - and nutritional requirements - that you need to either maintain a healthy weight or to lose weight, based on your height, current weight and activity level. Logging everything that you eat and drink and seeing it's nutritional value really helps. You can see if you are eating enough and getting the right balance of everything.
I've been using it since February and have lost an average of 8lbs a month.

Thanks for the replies, Yes Nosha I've done 45 min jogging/fast walking today an aquafit class on Wednesday and fifty sit ups a day! I have only been the once since I started the diet (sorry) so you may be onto something Anngel..! And I know fad diets aren't the answer we just wanted something to kick start us for a few weeks and then stick to calorie counting and healthier meals from then on! I'm not gonna get too downhearted just yet and I stayed away from the cake!! And I'll try not compare myself to OH (or double up on his powder in the shakes...) thanks again everyone! X
Not only if you weight more will the affect of the diet be greater, but also males tend to carry more muscle and so burn up more calories. If you are eating the sam he will have a greater drop than yourself. You need separate diets.
Also, slim fast, that's that shake thing isn't it. May be ok for a kick start but you are not going to get into sensible eating habits like that so if you do achieve anything maintaining will be difficult. I'd advise spending a bit of time developing proper meal plans you can be on for the rest of your life.

most of the early weight loss is water anyway, it's the water that glygogen is stored in. When in starvation mode the body will use that glycogen as energy first and excrete the water. Meal replacement diets are the wrong approach because you are basically starving and when you eat normally the body will recoup what it has lost very quickly, in the interim the metabolism will have slowed and the net effect over time is weight gain.
Keep up the exercise... As much cardio (sweaty out of breath) as you can fit in. I never found sit ups achieved much... But walking uphill fast or even a gentle jog can kick start your fitness levels! Don't be disheartened! It's not just about weight loss... It's about your health and wellbeing! You will be fitter and more able to stave off heart disease, strokes and certain cancers plus diabetes! Good luck
Have a look at our Onwards and Downwards thread. The posters there are really good at motivating each other. Plus you may find you feel more inclined to stick to your diet if you are part of a group. They are a great bunch who tend to weigh in on a Wednesday why not pop over and say hello?

I only want to lose a stone and half to two stone really, but so does my partner to be at his optimum so it's not like he's massive, anyway we both did the exact same diet for a full week, he lost 8lb in total and I still lost nothing! Doesn't sound right at all! I've joined the local gym /pool now though so should lose the weight eventually! ;0) thanks all!
I am glad you are taking this so positively. Different body types respond differently to diets. Don’t be disheartened that you haven’t lost as much as him. Men do tend to lose weight quicker. You should also find a healthy weight loss diet that will help you stay at your ideal weight while giving you enough nutrition. Exercise is also a must for a healthy lifestyle and so it’s great you’ve joined the local gym/pool. Swimming is an excellent way to stay fit. Now find a diet that suits you best. You’ll have to do a little research but it’s definitely worth it and you can find a healthy weight loss diet that is sure to help you lose weight. All the best!
