Pain in lower (very low) spine
14 Answers
Please help with embarassing problem. I don't like going to the doctors so I need advice. I have acquired a pain in my lower spine. It seems to be right at the point I sit on (coxix?). It gets quite painful at times so I have to watch how I sit and I cannot sit on the hard floor or carpet at home. It is weird as when it gets bad it even hurts when standing and I tense my cheeks. Not sure if its muscle or bone related.

Do you remember hurting or bashing it recently? I broke my coxcyx when I was 14 and every now and then it still troubles me, especially when bending over picking something up off the floor. I also can't sit on hard surfaces, like you describe. You do really need to see the doctor as he will be able to give you some prescription painkillers that will work much better than anything you can buy. hope this helps!
I had similar syptoms which my doctor chose to ignore. It turned out to be an abscess for which I have needed 6 operations to resolve, including a final plastic surgery technique to mend the scar from all the previous operations. Had it been seen to in the first instance I would not have had to go through all of that. I am not trying to scare you at all, just to point out the fact that you really should see your doctor. You don't get pain for no reason.
If enough of us agree that you should see your doctor, will you go - please? I think you know yourself that it's the only answer really. If you don't get it looked it and sorted out, it could become worse and then you'd wish you went.
I know it's a pain going and I don't think anyone actually enjoys it, but we have to go when we have a problem, if not for our own sakes, then for the sake of the people who love and care about us.

i also think you should go to the doctor. i have the same problem, one time i picked up an empty basket and by the end of the night i looked like quazimodo! i had to go to the er and get a shot of demoral, and some percasets. it was bad! so please go to the doctor and let them look at you. like andy said they are imposible to embaress!
Do go, bubbles21. I bet you wear a bikini on the beach without a second thought; you won't be anything like as exposed as in that situation. It's much better a few minutes checking now than a lot more misery caused later through an ignored complaint. The body nags away for a reason you know. Often GP practices have a shared GP arrangement and one might be a woman doctor, perhaps once a week. Enquire from the reception. Also, get a friend to go with you as it helps whilst you are waiting, and will perhaps ensure that you don't "chicken out" at the last moment. Good luck!
