If BOTH parents carry the abnormal gene of Gilbert' Disease than there is an increase chance of your children getting the disorder.... ......I cannot be more specific than that.

I have it, no idea if anyone else in my family does. Not thought to ask as I was told it was just one of those harmless things and nothing to worry about in my case, it was just picked up on a general liver screening test I think.
I remember being told I had baby jaundice but it cleared up and the only time I've noticed going yellow anytime since was when I had gallstone problems.
Is this in relation to your other question about Addisions when you mentioned looking "tanned"?

I was diagnosed with GS a few years ago just by chance.. Ive just started to look into it as havent been well recently. I was under the impression its nothing to worry about but may be the cause of my symptoms i have previously mentioned.
I do know how I have it because each parent has the single gene and together it will make GS in a child. I just couldnt find if a parent has GS will their child..

Missy - I have Gilbert's Syndrome - was diagnosed when I was 16. The whites of my eyes were very yellow and felt very sluggish. It does tend to run in families. My Dad also has it. It does not cause any ill affects, but when I have a liver function blood test, my reading is always around 48 which is quite high.
As I have got older, the whites of my eyes do not appear yellow anymore (not sure why).
Basically the billirubin in the blood does not clear as efficiently as others without this problem.

Gilbert's Syndrome is no big deal and rarely needs treatment.
