on Wednesday for an operation on my toes due to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
I will have to decide what type of anesthesia to have, either general or spinal and cannot make my mind up which is the lesser of the two evils.
Any suggestions?

You are a one Mike!
Didn't occur to me that the thing might start to wear off sherrardk.
Am leaning towards the GA at the moment.
Good luck missprim. I would have a General. As others have said, the least you know about it, the better.
By the way they usually give you morphine before you wake up so that might be what is making you feel sick. I always tell them not to and refuse morphine, even if the alternative is not as effective. Just a thought.
It felt like they were doing the washing up in my stomach (there were two of them doing it and the bloke had huge hands!).

Thanks Chrissa, general it is.
Thanks everyone for all your input.
our thoughts..................
I hope all goes well for you on Wednesday and I would opt for general
Question Author
Thanks again excelsior and yes sibton I have decided to let them knock me out!
Just hope they remember to wake me up!
I hope all goes well for you, there should be no problems.
For my toes? No contest........a spinal with sedation.

Had one of my hips done under general and one under spinal and sedation.............give me the spnial AND sedation any time.

You don't need good luck with top class surgeons and anaesthetists.
Just seen your post.....you have decided..........ignore my post.
Question Author
Thanks marval I hope not.
Perhaps I don't need good luck sqad but it's always nice to hear people wish that.
Why do you prefer the spinal?
Post operative recovery is quicker, no nausea or vomiting and less post anaesthetic complications e.g chest infractions or pulmonary emboli.
\\\\\ it's always nice to hear people wish that. \\\\\
No it's not......it is meaningless.....if anybody needs good luck it is the medical staff.
Please let us know how it goes, as I am scheduled for the same thing.Good Luck.
Question Author
Well I am grateful for everyone's good wishes and I really hope the surgeon knows what he's doing and doesn't need luck.
If I hear someone say 'Good luck with the operation sir' I'm out of there!!
Question Author
Ok will do Everhelpful.
I'd have the same as sqad. I have no problem with a general but prefer to avoid it if I can.
missprim....remember the old saying:

"It is better to be a lucky surgeon than a good one"

So true....even today.
Question Author
I've never heard that saying sqad, did you just make it up?
