AB Fitness (2) - yay, tenrec
9 Answers
Hi, guys ...
Just a few loose ends to tie up from last time.
Firstly ... tenrec ... !
This weekend, tenrec ran her first organised 5k ... way to go, girl !
And finished in about half an hour ... I think most runners are faster than their official time ... the clock starts when the run begins. Unless you are at the front, and straight over the starting line, the clock has been running for a bit before you cross the start. The only exception is if you are given an electronic chip to log your start and finish.
So ... I bet tenrec did even better than she thinks!
Anyway ... Yay, tenrec ... !!
(waits for applause for tenrec to die down)
Next, ChattyKathy mentioned netball in Australia, and how it has a much higher profile. Yes, it really does, doesn't it, CK. The Australian national team (the "Diamonds") are national celebrities. Women in Australia are almost as likely to join a netball club as they are to join a gym.
Maybe that's why the Diamonds world ranking is ... err, Number 1.
Still, some of us will keep on doing our best to raise the profile of netball.
(just call me Jogger Uphill Struggle Jayne)
What next?
Oh, yes ... LDC134 asked about tummy exercises. I wonder what happened to Velvetee? She was a fitness instructor.
Okay, I'll tell you my tummy routine, but with a short description of each exercise, so I'll post it later. While you wait, are you sitting at a desk or table? (not such a daft question if you're using a computer). If so, put your hands on the desk and press down. Now lift your knees up, just enough to lift your feet off the floor.
Feel that in your tummy?
Keep holding it !!
That tummy tension is what all tummy exercises try to achieve.
Still holding it !!
Because you're in a natural position, there is no excessive strain on you back, which is also good.
Aaaand ...
... relax.
I'm going out for a bit. Back later.
So how's everyone else been doing ???

But it's true, the Diamonds and the Silver Ferns have much higher profiles. I think this is because women's sport in general attracts much more attention down under.
Indeed, I see Baggy Green #3 died this week

Would such a thing be noticed in UK newspapers?

Thanks for the update JJ and for keeping us motivated.
There is quite a high netball participation in Birmingham. When I was playing there were about 120 teams in Brum. Loved getting up on a Saturday morning for a game! Have you noticed that women's sport attracts zero attention in this country unless men play it as well?? Love the pic, jno ;-)
