On the continent, many countries allow 16 year olds to buy low % volume beer and cider, but keep them off the strong stuff til they're 18. Very sensible opinion in my age.
The legal age for drinking alcohol on licensed premises and for buying it there, whether as off-sales or on-sales, both to remain at 18. An exception will allow 16 and 17 year olds accompanied by an adult to consume alcohol of less than spirits strength with a table meal on licensed premises.

If you're 15 and were hoping your next birthday could be celebrated by an alcoholic drink, I guess it's time to start being EXTRA nice to mum and dad! (If you're a lot older than that, I apologise! I was just making an assumption based purely on the question!)
