I have been with my partner for 5 happy years, or so I though! He goes away on a business trip and avoids calling me most of the week, when finally he does get back he said he didnt want to be with anymore and that he wanted to sell the house and run away. He is being incredible nasty towards me and is acting as though I have never existed, its so sudden and unexpected..what the hell is going on!!

It doesn't sound good.  Are you completely sure he was on a business trip?  Has he been acting strangely over the last few weeks?  I doubt he'd decide on a whim to leave you, there must have been a catalyst.

Try and be mature about it, you aren't going to get anywhere by getting emotional around him.  Maybe suggest meeting for a drink in a few weeks to talk about everything properly.  if he shows no sign of changing his mind just ask him, say something like 'look, this is clearly not going to be worked out, so can I at least know the real reason why you're leaving me?'
