14 years of wearing my ring I see to have developed an allergy! At first I thought it might be because there was dirt
/ sip residue underneath so took Ot off cleaned it and especially made sure I always dried my hand well etc. no joy! So I took the ring off for a week or so and it cleared completely. Now put it back on for one day and this morning I have red rash which looks like its a burn. (almost blister like but not quite) after 14 years could I have developed an allergy to 18carat gold!!!!

Oh dear - try wearing it on your other hand for a while and see if it clears up. (My friend suffers similarly because she never takes her ring off when she's washing up, etc.)

Yeah what a good (obvious) idea box. Will try. I do however take my ring offer washing etc so can't be gunk / moisture trapped. It just weird that the rash developed again after one day.
it is most likely because you are washing your hands/coming into contact with chemicals and not rinsing off underneath the ring effectively enough. i'm a nurse and if i am going to be doing stuff where i am washing my hands, i always take my wedding ring off and rinse super well. this has stopped the contact dermatitis that was happening under my silver wedding ring....i've been married 20 years and it only started happening 2-3 yrs ago. x

Interesting Zac. Of interest is that anything less than 18 carat (eg 9 carat jewellery) had "always" caused a skin reaction in me. Hence why my wedding ring is 18carat . Perhaps I'm just getting more sensitive as I get older? But I feel lost without my wedding ring :(

Nah icg - that's what I thought at first but I've been super careful to always removed ring and make sure area is clean dry etc.
Could it be your second 7 year itch?

;o)

Haha baldric .., yeah that's what people at my local pub must be wondering as I haven't been wearing my ring. There starts a village rumour.
try painting the inside with colourless nail polish woks for me
I had to have my wedding ring cut off because my finger swelled so much and blistered badly with dermatitis/exzema. Haven't worn a ring since (about 30 years ago). I sometimes put it on and other rings if we are going out, but don't ever wear it at home. Can you wear it on a chain? The bad reaction started many years after we got married.
