renewing wedding vows
10 Answers
hi, am i the only one who immediately thinks there must have been marriage trouble that is now over when people renew their vows?
my husband recently asked me if i wanted to renew ours. he asked because when we went to register our daughter's death, it was the same registrar that married us (despite a gap of 10 years and a different county!) then he said wouldn't it be nice to get the same registrar to renew our vows. I however am very suspicious of why people do this - i either think 1) an affair or 2) at least some big milestone like 20 or 40 years.
So, when you hear people are renewing, what do you immediately think?

After my Mum died in '07, the resulting video was a great reminder for my Dad to watch. It caused a few tears, but I'm very glad they did it as it was such a special occasion to film for future reference.

It would depend who it was and what I knew about them. I agree it could be to make up for misdemeanours, or because of some big milestone like 25 years, or because one of them has a terminal illness! :(
If it was a couple I didn't know at all, I wouldn't assume anything at all. It could be any of the above.
