cipralex and alcohol
hi there, please help me, i have been on cipralex for around ayear now, i was on seroxat before that untill i nearly committed suicide and murdered my close friends, i am now having similar effects off cipralex, if i mix it with alcohol, i have been told i become very aggressive and emmotionally violent to whomever is around me, the reason i say ive been told this, is because i can never remember what has happened, i am really scared now to even havea sip of alcohol as the last time i drank, i ended up getting barred from several bars and then walked home and got my car to go to the shop, even though i had just walked straight past it, my mind is full of confusion, and i dont know what to do except despair, please help
many regards lee

I am on Cipramil(for Depression/Anxiety) and also Lithium (for Manic Depression) so I don't touch alcohol out of choice.I think Andy is right, you just have to make the decision NOT to drink. I haven't now for about 6 years! and I really don't miss it.It's not as difficult as it sounds. However if (without the alcohol) you medication doesn't seem to be working don't be afraid to ask your GP for a different one.
Do let us know how you are getting on,I do REALLY appreciate what you are going through.
Good Luck!
Seroxat and Cipralex are both SSRI's. If you continue to get feelings of aggression and self harm on Cipralex, you should speak to your CPN (I assume you have one) about trying a different group of drugs.
AND carry on with counselling. Antidepressants won't cure you on their own.
By the way, all the people I know on SSRI's (4 or 5) tend to drink, and the Seroxat website has several comments about it - as if the desire to drink is tied in with taking the tablets. And that when coming off them, had to deal with beer cravings too!
Hope things settle down soon, Lee.
