Your question doesn't make sense I'm afraid.
Unsure where you got that from. Pure nonsense.
I had my hip operation three years agooooooooooooooooooo
when you say 'within say, 3 years' you're being a little vague on the time scale, i doubt a surgeon prior to performing a hip replacement operation would say to the patient, ' oh and if you die within say, 3 years, you'll have to have a post mortem' they would be a little more specific on the time scale i would imagine.

sorry a bit muddled! I read it back and your right!
I read or was told that if you die within 3yrs of having a hip replacement, that a post mortem would have to be performed (something to do with the op perhaps) ?? thankyou
I think that would depend on why you died....
......to find out if it was the new hip that caused your death? There are r.ports where some metal hip replacements have been faulty and pieces of metal have been working their way off and causing pain, not life threatening I hope. A certain make have been to blame and those who have them fitted up to September 2009 have been recalled to have a new replacement. A friend of ours has just had his re-done. By all accounts I'm OK although I have to go back for another x-ray in Nov 2013.

Okay thank you all for your input on this, will need to mull this over...
I am not quite sure why it would be deemed necessary to have a PM in such a case as you describe twoboys. There are some legitimate concerns over one type of hip replacement in particular, where you have a metal - on - metal implant. Evidence shows that metal particles from wear and tear of the metal can accumulate around the local tissue, causing some problems, and in the worst case scenario, tissue necrosis.

As far as I am aware, there is no suggestion that such implants could result in fatalities.

The MHRA have some interesting information regarding such implants here;

And Arthritis Research UK have a useful piece here;

That is pure hearsay....a post mortem will depend upon the circumstances of the death and not a recent hip replacement.
