Thanks folks for your answers. I was asking on behalf of my SinL he's had rather a bad year has been told his liver is damaged & has been told to cut the wine out. He's doing really well & things are looking up but now he's gone into these depressions & can't shake em off.
I'll pass on your tips. Tah!
get him to talk to someone on a regular basis, even you. Make time once a week, and talk about everything, and concentrate on one thing at a time to fix. support him every step of the way. Best wishes.
Well, it depends upon what sort of depression we are considering...." fed up", reactive depression.endogenous depression.....how and to what extent it is affecting his life.
Your GP is the first port of call, not the whisky bottle.
Echoing others suggestions, definitely exercise ! Walking just somewhere picturesque is very therapeutic I find and those lovely endorphins are released which make things seem so much better !
Hi Jem, I have sympathy with your SiL , if he is using drink as a crutch, it is unhealthy. However everything in moderation is supposed to be good for us. Was the infected liver due to drinking alcohol? The endorphins earlier posters mentioned are sometimes slow to appear, tell him not to give up. Tell him to pop a portable music player in ( i-pod ) and away he goes. Good luck to him.
