period pains

when I have bad period pains and I get stressed, the pain seems much worse. Is there a link here?

There is definitely a link between how stressed you feel, and your perception of / response to pain.
An easy way to see the other half of the deal ie that you feel less pain when you're happy or busy - have you ever been dancing at a party then afterwards you find out what those shoes did to your feet....but you never noticed at the time because the good feelings outweighed the blisters.

So the answer to your question is 'yes'. What you do about it is another thing.
Yes - tension tenses up your muscles, relaxing makes it easier. Try specialist period pain killers from the chemist.
