Will I ever know what is going on?

About a month ago my partner of 5 years came home and said that he needed a clean break in his life and that he couldnt cope with anything at the moment. We have spoken on several occasions and he just keeps saying that he feels numb at the moment and cant cope with anything. I have been left feeling so numb and confused by the whole thing. I feel like I have lost my best friend..the rock in my life!, Although I am moving out of our home soon and have a new job to look forward to I just keep hoping that once all the stress in his life has gone that he will come back to me and realise that he has made a mistake! I just dont know what to do, I love this man and miss his companionship so much sometimes I just dont think I can cope with the pain, what on earth has happened and why!! Please help, any suggestions as to what is going on would be so appreciated..is it really me thats the problem with his life or what?

Maybe not sounds more like what my friends fella did he said all that rubbish that he could nto cope and she found out 3 months after they split his depression had suddenly lifted , he had being seeing anotehr woman and did not have the guts to admit it
