Another One Fao Sqad

I was at a local auction this morning and most of the lots seemed to be medical equipment. Remember the retired GP who died earlier this year, initials AC? I have never seen so much equipment outside a hospital, most of it dating back to the year dot. He must have been a real magpie. Is this a common occurrence?

AC....I remember him well.

The Whitby area was a hot seat for Gp's who did their own midwifery, surgery and anaesthesia. Some say the "good old days" and this was reflected in the instruments that they accumulated. Whitby Hospital was a GP hospital and was an experiment which was never replicated.

I operated and did Op's there, but was never really happy with this "set up."

No, this is not a common occurrence.

sqad, we had GP hospitals here until a year or two ago (Hampshire). Minor ops at then stopped about 10 years ago.

The stuff may not have all belonged to the same person. Auction houses like to set up sales of similar material to attract bigger numbers of bidders, so there may have been other contributors who were asked to save up their goods for a specialist sale. I know the auctioneers near here do specialist sales like that, especially art, photography, ceramics, etc
